Questions
How much does a barbell weigh?
A standard Olympic barbell weighs 45 lb (20 kg). A women's Olympic bar weighs 35 lb (15 kg). Some gym bars, such as a trap bar or a training bar, weigh something else, so check the sleeve or ask the gym.
How do you load plates on a barbell?
Subtract the weight of the bar from your target, halve it, and load that weight on each side. Put the biggest plates on first, closest to the centre, and load both sides the same.
How many plates is 225 lb?
225 lb on a 45 lb bar is two 45 lb plates on each side, which is 4 plates in all.
What is the smallest jump I can make on a barbell?
Twice your smallest plate. With 2.5 lb plates on each side it is 5 lb. With 1.25 kg plates it is 2.5 kg.
