Getting an accurate deadlift estimate
- Reset between reps. A touch-and-go set of deadlifts estimates higher than a set with a pause on the floor.
- Use the same stance and grip each time. Mixed grip and hook grip lift different weights.
- Stop the set when your back position changes.
- Estimates from sets above 8 reps are loose for the deadlift, because grip and back tire first.
- Sumo and conventional are different lifts. Keep their numbers apart.

Questions
How do I estimate my deadlift one-rep max?
Enter the weight and reps from a set of 1 to 5 clean reps. The calculator uses the same formula as the Lift app: Brzycki up to 10 reps, Epley above.
Why is my deadlift estimate higher than my real max?
Touch-and-go reps, straps, and long sets all push the estimate up. Use a paused, strap-free set to match a real test.
What is a good set to estimate a deadlift max from?
A hard set of 2 to 6 reps with the same form on every rep. For example, 315 lb for 3 reps gives an estimated deadlift one-rep max of 333.5 lb.
